The Miami–Lisbon gap isn't fixed. It flips between 4 and 5 hours because both observe daylight saving—but on different schedules.
From the second Sunday in March (US DST starts) to the last Sunday in March (EU DST starts), Miami springs forward but Lisbon hasn't yet. Gap = 4 hours.
Then both are on DST (EDT = UTC-4, WEST = UTC+1) from late March to late October: back to 5 hours.
From the last Sunday in October (EU DST ends) to the first Sunday in November (US DST ends), Lisbon falls back but Miami hasn't: 4 hours again.
| Period | Miami | Lisbon | Diff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Nov – mid Mar | EST (UTC-5) | WET (UTC+0) | 5h |
| Mid Mar – late Mar | EDT (UTC-4) | WET (UTC+0) | 4h |
| Late Mar – late Oct | EDT (UTC-4) | WEST (UTC+1) | 5h |
| Late Oct – early Nov | EDT (UTC-4) | WET (UTC+0) | 4h |
Always verify with a world-clock tool (timeanddate.com, Google "time in Lisbon") before scheduling calls. The two "mismatch weeks" catch people every year.
