Why Geneva is not capital of Switzerland?

Geneva is not the capital of Switzerland, Bern is. There are historical and political reasons for this.

Historically, Switzerland developed from a confederacy of semi-independent states called cantons. Each canton had its own government and capital, and there was no central capital for the entire country. Over time, some cantons gained more power and influence, and Bern eventually emerged as the most powerful canton. In 1848, Bern became the official capital of Switzerland, and it has remained so to this day.

Geneva is a significant city in Switzerland, but it does not have the same political or economic importance as Bern. It is primarily known for being a center of international diplomacy and is home to many international organizations, including the United Nations Office at Geneva and the World Trade Organization.
