Maria Theresa's Goals for Austria

As ruler of the Habsburg dominions, Maria Theresa pursued six core objectives:

1. Strengthen the Habsburg Dynasty: Secure territorial integrity and prevent losses.
2. Centralize and Reform Administration: Streamline bureaucracy and modernize institutions.
3. Uphold Catholicism: Suppress religious dissent and maintain Church influence.
4. Reform the Military: Improve organization, training, and effectiveness of the army.
5. Promote Economic Development: Encourage trade, industry, and agriculture to increase prosperity.
6. Secure and Expand Territory: Defend existing lands and acquire new ones when feasible.

Her reign (1740–1780) laid foundations for a more centralized, resilient Austrian state.
