Tornadoes in Greece: Rare but Real

Greece averages 10–15 tornadoes/year, mostly spring/summer (thunderstorm season). Most are weak (EF0–EF1), short-lived, over sea or rural land. Notable exception:

• June 2017, Nea Peramos (Halkidiki): EF3 tornado—significant damage, injuries.

Waterspouts are more common over the Aegean/Ionian. Climate change may increase frequency/intensity. During severe storms: seek sturdy shelter, avoid windows, monitor Hellenic National Meteorological Service alerts.
