Key subordinate officials in the colonial administration of New France (1600s–1763) included:

• Intendant: Oversaw finance, economy, justice, public works, trade.
• Royal Attorney (Procureur du Roi): Crown's legal representative; prosecuted crimes, defended royal rights.
• Provost Marshal (Prevôt): Law enforcement, commanded militia, executed sentences.
• Judge of Common Pleas (Juge des Requêtes): Presided over civil disputes.
• Sénéchal: Presided over criminal cases, pronounced sentences.
• Comptroller of the Marine: Managed naval finances, ship construction/repair.
• Treasurer of the Navy: Disbursed naval funds, kept accounts.
