Rothenburg ob der Tauber (lit. 'Red Castle upon the Tauber'), commonly referred to as Rothenburg, is a town in the district of Ansbach of Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), the administrative region of Franconia, in Bavaria, Germany. It lies on the Romantic Road tourist route between Würzburg and Füssen. On 1 January 2019, the town's population was 22,151.
