What does Cyprus mean?

Cyprus comes from the Greek word "Kypros", which is said to be derived from "kyparissos", the Greek word for "cypress tree" that grows in abundance in Cyprus.

Another legend says that the name "Cyprus" comes from Ancient Greek "Kipros", who is associated with the name of his mother "Kypris", a Phoenician term for the Babylonian goddess Ishtar.
