What are some interesting things that have happened in Slovenia?

* 1991: Slovenia becomes independent from Yugoslavia. Slovenia was one of the first republics to break away from Yugoslavia, following the country's dissolution. Slovenia's independence was achieved peacefully, through negotiations with the Yugoslav government.

* 1992: Slovenia is admitted to the United Nations. Slovenia became a member of the United Nations on 22 May 1992.

* 2004: Slovenia joins the European Union. Slovenia is a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004. Slovenia is also a member of the eurozone since 2007.

* 2010: Slovenia holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union. Slovenia held the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time in the second half of 2010.

* 2013: Slovenia becomes a member of the OECD. Slovenia is a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) since 2013.

* 2016: Slovenia wins its first Olympic gold medal. Tina Trstenjak won Slovenia's first Olympic gold medal in history at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Trstenjak won gold in the women's judo 63 kg category.

* 2017: Slovenia hosts the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Slovenia hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships for the second time in 2017. The championships were held in Maribor.
