The **Government of the Russian Federation** (the Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister) convenes in the **White House (Белый дом)** on the **Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment** in **Moscow**.
The Building
- Original: Built 1965–1981 as **Comecon headquarters** (Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, the Eastern Bloc's answer to OECD).
- Architects: Mikhail Posokhin, Gennady Sirota. Monumental late-Soviet modernism.
- 1991: Became seat of the **RSFSR Council of Ministers** (Boris Yeltsin).
- August 1991: Yeltsin famously stood atop it during the coup attempt.
- 1993: Shelled by tanks during constitutional crisis (Yeltsin vs. Parliament).
- Post-1993: Restored; houses **Government of Russia** (PM + ministries). The **State Duma** (lower house) meets next door (Okhotny Ryad). **Federation Council** (upper house) meets on Bolshaya Dmitrovka.
