Where to Get a Signature Guarantee in Germany

A signature guarantee (verifying identity and signature authenticity for securities transfers, legal documents) is available from several German institutions:

Authorized Providers

Process

  1. Bring valid ID (Passport or Personalausweis).
  2. Bring the unsigned document (or sign in front of them).
  3. Institution verifies identity, witnesses signature, affixes stamp/seal + signature + date.
  4. For US "Medallion Signature Guarantee" (SEC Rule 17Ad-15): Only financial institutions in the Medallion program (mostly US/Canadian). German banks cannot provide this. You need a US broker/dealer or a German bank with a US correspondent arrangement (rare).

Alternative for US Securities

  • Use a US-based brokerage (Schwab, Fidelity, IBKR) that offers remote Medallion via video verification (some do for existing clients).
  • Or visit US Embassy/Consulate (notary only, not Medallion).
