* Czechoslovakia

* East Germany

* Hungary

* Poland

* Romania

* Yugoslavia

These countries were all communist states that were closely aligned with the Soviet Union. They were economically dependent on the Soviet Union and followed its political and military lead.

Reasons for Association

There are a number of reasons why these countries associated with the USSR.

* Soviet military power: The Soviet Union was a major military power, and its presence in Eastern Europe helped to deter Western aggression.

* Economic assistance: The Soviet Union provided economic assistance to the Eastern Bloc countries, helping them to rebuild after the war.

* Political ideology: The Eastern Bloc countries were all communist states, and they shared a common political ideology with the Soviet Union.

* Cultural ties: The Eastern Bloc countries had close cultural ties to the Soviet Union, due to their shared history and language.

End of the Eastern Bloc

The Eastern Bloc began to disintegrate in the late 1980s, due to a combination of factors, including the rise of nationalism, economic problems, and the collapse of the Soviet Union itself. By 1991, all of the Eastern Bloc countries had become independent states.
