When Germany started being called Germany?

In Latin, the terms Germania and Germania were used since ancient times to describe areas inhabited by Germanic tribes. The first recorded instance of the term Germania may have been used as early as the 1st century BC by Julius Caesar in his Commentarii de Bello Gallico.

In the 10th century, East Francia evolved into the Kingdom of Germany. The name "Germany" (Deutschland in German) comes from the Old High German word diutisc, which means "of the people" and was originally used by the Germanic-speaking peoples to distinguish themselves from the Latin-speaking Romans and Celts.

The term "Germany" in English has been in use since the 16th century.
