Do the himalaya mountains block rain or wind from Gobi desert?
Yes, the Himalayan mountains do block the rain and wind from the Gobi desert. This is because the Himalayan mountains are to the south and west of the Gobi desert, so they act as a natural barrier for rain and wind traveling in that direction. As the wet winds head in from the Bay of Bengal, they start dropping moisture at the lower altitudes on their way to the high summits. The Gobi Desert is also shielded by the Kunlun and Altyn Tagh mountain ranges in addition to the Himalayas. Because of this, only a small amount of rain and snow from the Indian Ocean makes it to the area.
