Did Austria-Hungary have a big military?

The Austro-Hungarian Army and Navy was the unified armed force of Austria-Hungary from 1867 to 1918, consisting of the Common Army and the Navy, as well as the Austrian Imperial Landwehr and the Royal Hungarian Landwehr. At the outbreak of World War I in 1914, the common army and navy numbered 480,000 men, while the Landwehr totaled around 1 million. By 1917, the total number of mobilized troops had reached 7.8 million. The army was the third largest in Europe, after the German and Russian armies, and played a major role in the First World War.
