  1. Architecture

    • The Colosseum, located in the Colosseo district, is credited as being one of the finest examples of Roman architecture and engineering since its completion in 80 A.D. Another historic site is the Old Rome district's Pantheon of ancient Rome. According to the Oracle Think Quest Education Foundation's website, the Pantheon is the best-preserved of all Roman architectural sites. It was originally built as a temple to honor ancient gods.

    The Vatican

    • Notable sites in the Vatican include the Sistine Chapel, famous for its interior depiction of biblical scenes primarily painted by Michelangelo, and St. Peter's Basilica, notable for being one of the largest churches in the world. Outside the church is St. Peter's Square with 140 statues of saints towering above it.

    Piazzas

    • Piazza Navona is a lively Roman square situated in Rome's historic center. A collection of outdoor cafes, stylish restaurants and night clubs are located in and around the square. Another entertaining square near Piazza Navona is Piazza Campo di' Fiori which houses cafes, restaurants and international-style pubs.
