The Villa Borghese Park is north of the Spanish Steps and provides residents and visitors a place to relax from the overwhelming crowds on the streets of Rome. Originally a vineyard, the park was turned into a park in 1903, becoming the first of its kind in Rome. The park is 148 acres in size and includes statues, fountains and a number of temples. It was also the site of the 1911 World Exposition and still has some of the buildings still standing.
The Trinità dei Monti is located at the top of the Spanish Steps and was created by the French in 1585, after four decades of construction. The location of this church is excellent for views over Rome. It is open to visitors at certain times and there are several works of art to view, with two being by Daniele da Volterra, a student of Michelangelo. Visitors are able to explore the architecture of the church, including its two bell towers and Gothic renaissance facade.
Rome is a shopping center with stores catering to every sort of merchandise, but more often fashion, jewelry, accessories and antiques take center stage. Of the many districts to choose from, Via del Corso is close to the Spanish Steps and is a popular district for both local shoppers and visitors. You can expect to find many clothing and tailoring stores in the area offering both pre-made and specially tailored dresses and suits.
