How to Identify Deer Figurines Made in Spain

Lladro is one of the most popular manufacturers of figurines in Spain since the late 1960s. Others have followed such as Tengra, trying to imitate the craftsmanship of Lladro's figurines. Spanish artists and companies make many types of figurines that include everything from people to animals, taking pride in their artistic endeavors. Identifying deer figurines from Spain requires the analyzation of several aspects of the product including coloring, size and appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of the figurine. Spanish-made deer figurines are rather small in size, ranging two to six inches tall. Exceptions exist, and can reach up to 14 inches tall including the Hind and Baby Deer made by Lladro.

    • 2

Examine and feel the texture of the figurine. Spanish deer figurines appear glossy and shiny and feel smooth. The smooth texture and shiny appearance occur as a result of the glazing process.

    • 3

Analyze the figurine's coloring. Spanish-made deer figurines follow similar color schemes and include hand-painted soft colors. Even though all deer will be light to dark brown, Spanish deer figurines make usage of light pastel colors.

    • 4

Examine the appearance and the detail of the figurine. Spanish deer figurines include finely detailed artwork, from the large eyes of a baby deer to an antler's curve on a buck. Larger figurines display scenes between multiple deer such as a deer jumping while one is at repose or both butt antlers. Smaller figurines are focused upon one deer curled up or standing.

    • 5

Look at the bottom of the deer figurine. If the deer figurine is made in Spain, it will say it on the bottom. It will either be stamped or impressed with the name of the company or trademark. Some may include the year it was made as well.
