Pet Travel to Serbia in Europe

When traveling to Serbia in southern Europe, your animal friends do not have to stay behind. Serbia follows laws similar to other European nations when it comes to allowing pets into the country. Be sure to follow the specific instructions so your pet is not denied entry.
  1. Dogs and Cats

    • Dogs and cats are allowed into Serbia, with proper documentation, for a month or less. With a veterinary certification, dogs and cats that are healthy and up-to-date on shots can enter Serbia. Check with the airline beforehand to learn the requirements for checking a pet as cargo or carrying it on the plane.

    Rodents

    • Domestic rodents and other furry animals must also have a veterinary certificate to enter Serbia. Like dogs and cats, they can enter for a month or less and must be free of disease. This includes rabies, TB, pasteurellosis, brucellosis or myxomatosis. Also, those diseases must not have been reported in the area where the pet is from during the prior six months.

    Reptiles and Exotic Pets

    • Reptiles and exotic pets must have a clearance with a veterinary certification to enter Serbia. They will be allowed in if they are healthy and have no communicable diseases.

    Import

    • Pets that are being imported into the country must also be accepted with a veterinary certification and permit for quarantine. This is available from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management: Veterinary Directorate. The permit for quarantine must be applied for by a customs agent or a resident of Serbia. Each pet must also have appropriate shots (with proof) and health clearance. Pets are quarantined for 21 days.

    Crossing

    • According to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia, pets can cross borders at the following provinces and cities: Airport Nikola Tesla, Belgrade, Batrovci-Bezdan, Mali Zvornik-Sremska Raca, Horgos, Vatin, Veliko Gradiste, Dimitrovgrad, Presevo and Gostun.
