Wine Vacations in Italy

After experiencing the excitement and frenzy found at the Coliseum in Rome, the breathtaking landscapes of Verona, and the artisan pizzas in Napoli, a well-planned downtime in peaceful Italian vineyards can sound inviting. With many wine estates from which you can choose, you can narrow your vineyard hunting down to location, wine class and possible activities outside the wine estate.
  1. Badia a Coltibuono

    • For almost a thousand years the name Badia a Coltibuono has been synonymous with the highest quality Italian wines. Seated atop the hills of the Chianti region, the sprawling estate overlooks the Arno Valley---the exact view the monks found inspiring as the property enjoyed the status of a monastery. With the vineyard overflowing into the surrounding primeval forests, wine aficionados and casual tourists can find peace that remains uniquely Italian. Besides the wine tour and wine tasting, Badia a Coltinuono also offers cookery courses. Between fabulous wine and good Italian cooking, take a dip in the estate's open pool. You don't have to call in a booking for the afternoon guided tours. However, reservations are required for visits for wine tastings, professional tastings and vintage tastings.

    il Moncel Franciacorta

    • This historic 16th century villa enjoys a wine heritage that many vineyards envy. Tracing its roots to the Barboglio family, you can expect nothing but an excellent vineyard that produces excellent Italian wine. After partaking in the glorious food and perfectly aged wine, spend time outdoors and bask in the dirt paths lined with centuries-old trees. If you fancy a bike ride instead, the villa offers several bikes for rent. Guided bike rides take you along two paths: Percorse delle Rose (Path of the Roses), which stretches about 2.5 miles; and the Prcorso del Tasso of the Yew Path, which stretches just over four miles. Both guided rides give you perfect views of the vineyards. However, you can choose to wander on your own, which is perfect if you have a picnic basket in tow. Management recommends visitors call in advance for reservations. The winery welcome group visits with a minimum of 20 people.
