Going from Bratislava to Budapest via train is an easy trip made even more enjoyable by fast trains and excellent service. Budapest is a busy transportation hub and more than 50 trains stop at this city daily.
Buy your ticket in the station. You can use major credit cards at any desk marked with the credit card logos and it's usually easy to find an attendant who speaks English.
Book your tickets during the hours of operation for the international ticket desks. They are generally open during traditional business hours, so you won't be able to purchase your ticket at night.
Get a reservation for an InterCity train from Bratislava. They make fewer stops and have generally better service than some regional lines (see Slovak Railways for details, below).
Book some of your trip on the Hungarian Gyorsvonat trains, which offer fast service and first class seats.
Check your departure time in the center of the train station's main hall.
Enjoy views of the Lower Tatras on your way out of Slovakia. These stunning mountains and lush valleys surrounding them are surprisingly undeveloped.
Relax on the 2.5 hour trip from Bratislava to Budapest.
Enjoy your journey on a EuroCity train. These are considered the fastest trains that you can take and are the cleanest and most modern.
Take the metro from any of Budapest's three main train stations. Keleti and Deli Train Station are found on the Red Line, while Nyugati is on the Blue Line.
Take a tram. Budapest has the busiest traditional tram line in the world, and the lines run at night as well.
Walk from Nyugati Train Station. You are in the heart of the city, so it's a perfect chance to explore if you are traveling light.
