Plan some of your trip online. You can check out the Slovakian Railways site for timetables and plan your itinerary (see below).
Purchase a ticket in Bratislava. You can purchase your ticket with most major credit cards as long as you see the card logo displayed on the ticket windows.
Book your travel on a EuroCity train. These trains travel faster and are often more modern.
Practice some Slovak phrases to make booking your ticket easier. You will need to specify which type of train you would like to travel on and English-speaking attendants may be hard to find.
Try to book your travel on one of Croatia's new tilting trains. They reduce travel time drastically and are the most modern trains available.
Take the Pioneer Railway to Kosice to make your connection to Bratislava. It may not be the most direct route towards Zagreb, but you'll have a very scenic journey at a slow but enjoyable pace.
Travel from Bratislava to Zagreb in about 8 hours. These two capital cities are about 247 miles apart.
Enjoy a night train. You can book a traditional sleeping car to enjoy smaller compartments and more spacious interiors, but be sure to book far in advance.
Take a quick tram ride to reach the main square, Trg Bana Josipa Jelacica. Get on Tram 13 towards Zitnjak or Tram 6 towards Crnomerec.
Hop in a taxi and ask to be taken along a scenic route. Zagreb has outstanding architecture and a restored older town.
Walk to the nearby Cafe Zagreb Glavani Kolodvor for a snack and some rest--and a chance to read your map.
