Book a Eurail Pass online. There are a multitude of Eurail passes to choose from, but the one most specific to travel between Zagreb and Split is a Eurail Regional Pass that covers Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. Take your kids. You can book a Eurail Regional Pass that includes a child who will be traveling with you. In general, children under the age of three enjoy free train travel, while children ages four to 11 travel at half the rate of adult fares.
Validate your ticket before boarding the train. You must validate your ticket each time you get on the train--failure to do so can result in heavy fines.
