All beaches along the eastern coast of the island are developed and provide many services. Located nine miles south of the capital city of Rhodes along the northeastern coast popular Faliraki Beach. Faliraki is full of luxury and has it all -- a four-mile stretch of crystal-clear surf, water-skiing, windsurfing, pristine golden sands, excellent bars and fine dining. Faliraki will be crowded, so if you are looking for more peace and quiet than blitz and glitz, try the bay of Kathara. The water is calm and shallow making it safe for children, and the beach is surrounded by rough rocks, providing seclusion from the busier beaches nearby. Other notable beaches in the area include Ladiko, Kolymbia and Tsabika.
Further south along the eastern coast, past the village of Lindos, is Katsouni Beach, a popular tourist destination for families and young couples. At sunset, the sand at Katsouni gets the most beautiful texture, drawing out artists and photographers. Katsouni is one of three beaches that surround Lindos, the others are Megali Paralia and Lindos Palace. These are both sand and pebble beaches with shallow, turquoise blue waters that are ideal for swimming and diving. There are many hotels and bars within walking distance.
Just west from Rhodes city is the surfing community of Ixia. Not as calm as the island's eastern shore, the western beaches are still lovely, offering magnificent landscapes. Paradisi and Vagies beaches are two of the most popular and beautiful on the island. Surrounded by beautiful rocks and shimmering blue water, the bay of Vagies offers excellent scuba diving.
Rough winds and rocky shores define much of southwestern section of the island, creating a haven for windsurfers and traditional surfers. During July and August, the north winds produce magnificent waves at Prassonisi Beach, a long, sandy beach lying on the southernmost tip of the island. The beach consists in two sandy coves, which end in an island that can be reached by foot or swimming, depending on the level of the water. The landscape is idyllic, and the water is amazingly crystalline.
The only official nudist beach on Rhodes Island is the one at Faliraki, which offers full facilities such as showers and toilets and even has its own bar, Christos Taverna. But the island is dotted with small, hidden sandy coves such as Glyfada, Paliochora, Kopria, the small beaches of Monolithos down to Kamlamos, Kerameni Bay and the exotic beaches of Prassonisi, where beachgoers often enjoy the privacy to do as they wish.
