Margarita Island Tourism

Margarita Island is a gorgeous spot of land off the coast of Venezuela that has been growing in popularity as a tourist destination over the past few years. It is renowned for its beaches and laid back lifestyle, which are qualities shared by other Caribbean islands as well. For water sports, relaxing and picturesque landscapes, Margarita Island is the place to visit.
  1. Getting Around

    • To get to the island, flights can be taken from the international airport in Santiago, Venezuela. Getting around by bus or taxi is easy and very cheap thanks to cheap fuel prices.

    Beaches

    • About 50 beaches can be found across 106 miles of coastline that stretches around the northeast cape of the island. Playa el Agua is the most popular, but smaller, private beaches can also be found.

    Scuba Diving

    • Scuba diving is one of the most popular activities on the island, with multiple spots available for all skill levels. It is also relatively cheap to scuba dive here, compared with other Caribbean spots, as well as snorkel.

    Interior Travel

    • To see more of the island, head into the interior, where lush tropical forests house hiking trails and hundreds of species of bright, colorful birds.

    Shopping

    • Shopping on the island includes both sifting through local handicrafts, which include cigars, cloth and weavings, and beads, as well as duty-free products sold in the port.
