Victoria Island Tourism

Victoria Island is located in the southwestern corner of British Columbia, Canada, and it is separated from the mainland Canada and the United States by four different waterways. Because of its convenient location close to Seattle, Washington, and Victoria, BC, Victoria Island can be easily visited from both countries as a long weekend trip or for even longer. By the way, Victoria Island is better known as Vancouver Island--only Americans call it Victoria Island.
  1. How to Get There

    • You can get to Victoria Island by air, ferry, bus, car or cruise. You can take any of the daily flights from Vancouver or Seattle to Victoria Island or fly directly to Victoria Island from many cities around the United States and Canada. Victoria Island is also conveniently connected to mainland Canada and Washington state by daily vehicle ferries, passenger ferries and catamarans. Because of the excellent ferry service, you can get to Victoria Island in one of the scheduled buses from Seattle or Vancouver or drive down with your own car. In addition, more than 210 cruise ships use Victoria Island as one of their ports on their way to Alaska.

    When to Go

    • Victoria Island has the mildest climate in Canada with an average of 2,183 hours of sunshine a year, year-round blooming flowers and eight months without a frost. Springtime can start in February and it is mild. Summers are dry with temperatures between 65 F and 90 F. Constant offshore breezes keep the humidity levels low and summer evenings cool. Fall begins in late September with trees turning into a beautiful mix of orange, yellow and red leaves. Winter is the rainy season but Victoria Island receives considerably less rain than Vancouver and Seattle. The rainiest months are January, February and March and sometimes the rain arrives as a light snow. The average temperature during the winter months is 45 F.
