Located just two hours away from Paris, Le Touquet is positioned on the Opal Coast in northern France. With its many luxury hotels, restaurants and boutique shopping, the resort town has become a popular getaway for wealthy vacationers from both France and other European countries. Visitors will enjoy Le Touquet's pristine beach, well-preserved older homes, casinos and outdoor markets. Sports enthusiasts will also find many golf courses, tennis courts and horse-racing tracks in the area.
The mountain village of Sartene is located on the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea, and is known for its fine local wine. Visitors will enjoy the village's narrow streets and historic architecture, as well as the beautiful Sainte Marie church on the edge of the Place de la Liberation. Sartene is also located near the prehistoric cities of Cauria and Palaggiu, the stone carvings at Stantari and the beaches near Propriana.
Briancon, in the Provence region of France, is the highest city in Europe, sitting approximately 4,430 feet above sea level. The picturesque town is surrounded by the Parc National des Ecrins and is part of the popular Serre-Chevalier group of ski resorts. When Briancon's visitors come down from the slopes, they will find themselves surrounded by historic buildings and fortified walls, remnants of the city's defensive role against the Austrians during the 17th century.
Treguier, in northern Brittany, is most well known for its Cathedral Saint-Tugdual. The village overlooks the surrounding coastline and is a good stepping-off point for visits to the Coast of Pink Granite and the Isle of Brehat. Treguier boasts its own collection of interesting sites, however. Popular attractions in the village include the historically protected town center and the birthplace of controversial writer Ernest Renan, which has now been turned into a museum highlighting his life.
