The Botaniska Trädgården is Sweden's largest botanical garden, with over 20,000 species of Flora, 4,000 species in greenhouses and over 1,500 types of orchid alone. The gardens are a total escape to nature with miles of walking paths, Easter Island Tree, Bamboo Grove, Japanese Valley, plants from every part of the world and an elaborate Rock Garden that may be the most popular feature on the site. The popular gardens are listed in the Michelin travel guides as a worthwhile attraction.
The gardens are located at Carl Skottbergs Gata 22A, 41319 Göteborg in the western portion of the city. The gardens are reachable by tram numbers 1, 7 or 8 from Gothenburg, and by a three- to four-hour rail journey from Stockholm.
The gardens are open from Mondays to Sundays, 9 a.m. to sunset (which varies with season). The greenhouses are open from May to August, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and September to April 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. As of 2010, the gardens are free to enter; the greenhouses are 2EUR (about $2.80) for adults and free for those under 17.
