Which cities developed near lake Texcoco?

The two main cities that developed near Lake Texcoco were Mexico City and Tenochtitlan. Mexico City was founded by the Spanish in 1521, on the ruins of Tenochtitlan, which was the capital of the Aztec Empire. Tenochtitlan was built on an island in the middle of Lake Texcoco, and was one of the largest and most powerful cities in the pre-Columbian Americas. Lake Texcoco was also an important source of water and food for the people of the Valley of Mexico, and was used for fishing, irrigation and transportation.
