Why did St. Patrick decide to go Ireland and become a priest?

There is no evidence to suggest that St. Patrick intended to become a priest when he went to Ireland. In fact, he was kidnapped and taken to Ireland as a slave when he was 16. He escaped after six years, but returned to Ireland as a missionary bishop in 432 AD.
