How long does your criminal record stay with you in Ireland?

The retention periods for criminal records in Ireland are as follows:

Minor offences: 7 years

Serious offences: 10 years

Sexual offences: 17 years

Murder and manslaughter: Life

However, there are some exceptions to these rules. For example, if you have been convicted of multiple offences, the retention period for each offence may be longer. Additionally, if you have been sentenced to a period of imprisonment, the retention period for all of your convictions may be extended by the amount of time you spent in prison.

It's important to note that even if your criminal record has been destroyed, it may still be possible for certain organisations (e.g. the Garda Síochána, potential employers, etc.) to access it.
