Why do the English occupy 6 counties in northern Ireland?

The English do not occupy six counties in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, and has been since 1921. The six counties that make up Northern Ireland are Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh and Tyrone.
