Is it illegal to keep a sloth as pet in the Republic of Ireland?
It is illegal to keep any wild animal as a pet in the Republic of Ireland, unless you have a license from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). Sloths are considered to be exotic animals, and are therefore subject to the laws governing the keeping of exotic pets in Ireland. The penalties for keeping an exotic pet without a license can be severe, with fines of up to €5,000 and/or imprisonment.
