Is Ireland part of the British Isles?

The British Isles are a group of islands located off the northwest coast of continental Europe. The largest of these islands are Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands. Ireland is therefore part of the British Isles, but it is not part of the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is a sovereign state that includes Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and other smaller islands. Ireland is a separate sovereign state.
