Westport, Ireland Cottages

The bustling town of Westport, in County Mayo, is an attractive vacation destination for anyone who wants to relax in the picturesque surroundings of Ireland's west coast. The small town may have less than 6,000 inhabitants but it has a lot to offer visitors, from the Adventure Park at Westport House, to its Georgian architecture and championship golf course, all overlooked by Croagh Patrick Mountain, which has been an important pilgrimage site for hundreds of years. Opting to stay in a cottage rather than a hotel is one way to enjoy a different vacation experience.
  1. The Olde School House

    • Located 10 minutes' drive from Westport, the Olde School House is, as its name suggests, a converted schoolhouse. The owners live next door in a converted church. The two-bedroom cottage has its own private entrance and access to a mature garden area where guests can help themselves to freshly-grown vegetables and free-range eggs. The cottage may be a historic building, but its facilities are entirely modern, and guests can make use of a washing machine, drier and microwave. The cottage even boasts an appearance in "Return to the River," a German feature film based on a Rosamund Pilcher novel.
