Southwestern Vacation Cottages in Ontario, Canada

The southwest region of Ontario provides tourists with chances for boating activities in Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Vacation cottages are near all of these large bodies of water, and some of them have waterfront property. Rates vary for Ontario's cottages; the highest rates are usually in the summertime. These cottages are also near hiking trails at Bruce Peninsula and Point Pelee National Parks.
  1. Lake Erie

    • Maple Court Cottages on the Lake (maplecourtcottages.com) is on the eastern end of southwestern Ontario, less than 10 minutes from Norfolk. This cottage resort features five two-bedroom cottages with living rooms and kitchens. The resort's largest unit, Bungalow 450; this unit also has a basement. Each cottage also has an outdoor fire pit and picnic table. The are secluded from each other. Pigeon Bay Cottages (pigeonbaycottages.com) are on the shores of Lake Erie's Pigeon Bay region, approximately 30 minutes east of Point Pelee National Park. This resort provides three cottages dating back to the early 20th century. The cottages are within eyesight of each other but not grouped together. The largest cottage, Lodge Cottage, has four bedroom and two bathrooms.

    Inland

    • Located on the Thames River, the Cottage on the Thames (cottageonthethames.com) is in the city of St. Marys, Ontario. The cottage has a riverfront view and features two suites. The upstairs suite is available for rental year-round, while the ground floor unit is only available if the cottage owners are away. Both suites have kitchens, living rooms and bathroom. Outdoor amenities include a barbecue grill and private deck. The Cedars of Lake Eugenia Cottage Resort (cedarsresort.com) is on the southern shores of Lake Eugenia, approximately 45 minutes inland from Georgian Bay. This cottage resort features six cottages, all with two bedrooms. All cottages have kitchens and living rooms. The resort provides an outdoor pool, free canoe rentals, game room and playground area.

    Georgian Bay

    • The Blue Coast Cottages (bluecoastcottages.tripod.com) face Georgian Bay from Ontario's Wasaga Beach. Guests at Blue Coast have access to 10 cottages. Four of these cottages have three bedrooms for eight guests; six of the cottages accommodate six guests in two bedrooms. All cottages have kitchens and living rooms with a sleeper sofa. The resort has a picnic area with tables and barbecue grill. Situated on the Bruce Peninsula, Cliffside Cottages (cliffsidewiarton.com) provides views of Calpoy Bay -- a region of Georgian Bay -- from its two cottages. Open since 1936, Cliffside is a family owned operation. One of the cottages is a one-bedroom honeymoon cottage; this cottage has a dining area, outdoor deck with barbecue grill and kitchen. A playground is available for children.

    Lake Huron

    • Grand Bend's Captain's Cottages (captains-cottages.com) resort is within five minutes of Lake Huron and Pinery Provinicial Park; boat slips and fishing piers are at Pinery Park. Two cottages are available at Captain's Cottages, Lucky Stone and Corner Cottage. Lucky Stone has four bedrooms; Corner Cottage features three. Both cottages have kitchens, patios, washer/dryer units and living rooms. Pets may stay for a fee. Lilac Lane Bayfield Cottage (lilaclanebayfield.com) is on the shores of Lake Huron near Bayfield, Ontario. This cottage is available for summer rentals and accommodates up to seven guests with three bedrooms and a sleeper sofa in the living room. Stairs lead guests down a cliff to Lake Huron. Other amenities include an outdoor picnic area, bathroom and dining area.
