Things to Do in Ireland in April

Ireland is a popular travel destination for many people, perhaps because nearly 80 million people in the world claim Irish heritage. Ireland is known for its beautiful countryside on the west coast and vibrant metropolitan areas, such as Dublin on the east coast. April is a wonderful time to visit Ireland because the temperatures tend to be mild and the tourist season has not peaked yet, so travelers can take in the beauty of the country. Those who go to Ireland in April will find that there are many things to do.
  1. Music, Dance and Cultural Festivals

    • Ireland has long and rich cultural history, and has many festivals in April to showcase this history. Visitors can take in music at the Cork International Choral Festival in County Cork, the Country Music Festival in Bundoran, the Féile Átha Dá Chab traditional music festival in Ballydehob, the Bray Jazz Festival in Bray, or the Kilkenny Rhythm and Roots festival in Kilkenny. If visitors are interested in movies and films, then they can go to the Belfast Film Festival in Belfast, or if they are a fan of Irish dance, then you can go to the Ballymoney Irish Dancing Festival.

    Golfing Events

    • Aside from being hitting the links at one of Ireland's many golf courses, visitors will find that the month of April also hosts golfing events that they can observe. The Coasts of Down Links Challenge is a golf event that takes place in Northern Ireland at Kirkistown Castle Golf Club, the Royal County Down Golf Club and Ardglass Golf Club.

    Outdoors Activities

    • If travelers enjoy outdoors activities, Ireland has some events that may interest them in April. Ireland hosts the Waterways Ireland Classic Fishing Competition in Enniskillen, and the Punchestown Irish National Hunt Festival for horse racing. April is also a beautiful time to rent a boat for a leisurely sail, or to take up surfing.

    Tour the Countryside

    • The countryside of Ireland is beautify and diverse, with scenic mountains, lakes, farmland and castles. Ireland is roughly the same size as West Virginia, and much of the countryside can be seen by renting a car and going on a self-guided tour. If you are interested in a guided tour, there are many companies that will arrange an escorted tour for you, such as Abbey Tours and Celtic Tours.
