Galway began his professional career in 1969 when he joined the London Symphony Orchestra. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the finest flautists in the world, and he soon began to perform as a soloist with major orchestras around the globe. In addition to his classical performances, Galway has also collaborated with a number of popular musicians, including Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Elton John.
Galway has released over 50 albums, many of which have achieved commercial success. He has won numerous awards for his work, including a Grammy Award and two Emmy Awards. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2001.
