How was the government of Colombia elected?

Colombia elects its national government using a popular vote. The citizens of Colombia elect the President, Vice President, and members of the Colombian Congress every four years. The Colombian President serves as both head of state and head of government.

The President of Colombia is elected using a two-round system, in which the candidate who wins a majority of the popular vote in the first round is declared the winner. If there is no majority winner in the first round, a second round is held between the two candidates who won the most votes. The candidate who wins the second round is then declared the winner of the election.

The Vice President of Colombia is also elected alongside the President and serves a four-year term. The Vice President is also the President of the Colombian Senate.

The Colombian Congress is a bicameral legislature consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has 108 members, while the House of Representatives has 186 members. Members of the Colombian Congress are elected for four-year terms.

The Colombian government is based on a system of checks and balances in which the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government are all independent of one another. This system is designed to prevent any one branch of government from becoming too powerful and helps ensure the fair representation of all citizens in Colombia's political system.
