Tent Camping at Sandy Beach Park in Solano County, California

The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta is a water lover's paradise, with 1,000 miles to pursue your favorite activities. Sturgeon and striped bass challenge you to put a hook in the water and abundant rentals and charters allow you to engage in any water activities you care to try. While resorts and RV parks galore line the banks of the delta waters, Sandy Beach Park in Solano County offers tent campers a getaway along the banks of the Sacramento River.

  1. Location, Location, Location

    • Sandy Beach County Park and Campground lies along the western shore of the Sacramento River, just a mile from Rio Vista. The campground's location -- 50 miles southwest of downtown Sacramento -- makes for an easy getaway from the city's hustle and bustle. The mild climate provides an opportunity to stay in a tent at Sandy Beach any time of year. The weather stays just above freezing on the coldest winter nights and rarely rises above 90 degrees on the hottest summer days.

    Where to Pitch a Tent

    • Solano Park is open year-round with sites that accommodate tents as well as RVs. Enjoy the convenience of an on-site water spigot and electrical outlet as well as a fire pit, barbecue grill and picnic table. Mature foliage provides shade at most sites. Each site is a small half-circle allowing pull-through access if you are bringing a boat or trailer. The park provides flush restrooms and hot showers at each end of the campground.

    Preparing for Your Campout

    • Solano County accepts reservations for Sandy Beach Campground up to seven months in advance through its online reservation system. The park requires reservations at least 14 days before your arrival, with a two-night minimum. Book Friday and Saturday nights together, per park regulations. Up to 10 people and two dogs may stay at your site. Keep dogs on a leash and out of the day use areas.

    Have Fun in the Sun

    • Sandy Beach Park has a variety of recreational amenities to enjoy during your campout. A picnic area has a dozen tables overlooking the river. The beach is ideal for fishing or soaking up sunshine, but swimming isn't allowed due to swift currents and sudden drop-offs just offshore. Launch your boat from the ramp or set off on your Jet Ski, sailboat or wind board. Sport courts on site include sand volleyball and horseshoe pits.
