Summer breezes whisper through tall forests of Algonquin Park, Ontario's oldest provincial park. Just 10 miles outside the park's western boundary, Sand Lake nestles beneath the pines, strewn in blueberry and raspberry bushes that tingle the taste buds. Sandy shores and family camping resorts dot its edges, providing a camping haven with modern amenities.
Sand Lake Campground and Cottages has 400 feet of frontage along the lake's eastern shore. Grassy campsites beneath tall trees are available by the night or with a seasonal rate. Sites are available with full, partial or no hookups. The campground has boat slips, a children's playground near the family swimming beach and a separate swimming area for adults. Rent kayaks, canoes, paddle boats and fishing boats at the campground to set out on a watery adventure.
Along Sand Lake's norther shore, Silversands Family Resort provides sites with or without water, sewer and electrical hookups. Each site comes with a fire pit, and some have private decks and picnic tables. Swim along the white-sand beach that slopes gradually into the water, hike through the woods to view the natural flora and fauna and pick wild edibles, such as berries and mushrooms. The resort has a restaurant, a store and indoor recreation facilities.
On the eastern shore of the lake, Sandhurst All Season Resort provides camping sites with 1,500 feet of beach frontage. Stay for a night, a week or all season long at back-in campsites tucked among the trees. The sandy beach stretches past docks and a boat ramp where you can put your own boat onto the water or rent a variety of watercraft from the campground. Camping facilities include hot showers, coin-operated laundry, a playground and a store.
About 2.5 miles south of Sand Lake, Granite Ridge Wilderness Campground nestles along the shore of Himbury Lake. The campground encompasses 175 acres of natural wilderness along the Magnetawan river, where you can paddle, fish or relax on the golden sand. Choose from tent sites with or without electricity and water. RV sites come with partial or full hookups. Sites have fire rings and tables, and the campground has hot showers and a coin-operated laundry. A number of outdoor amenities on the property include beach volleyball, sports courts, electric and paddle-driven boat rentals and on-site store.
