Just off of highway 91, is the Watauga Dam Tailwater Campground. This facility is located next to the lake, in Butler, Tennessee. This camping facility offers fishing, swimming, boating, and jet-skiing opportunities within a few minutes from the campsites. It is also accessible to the beautiful Appalachian Trails within just a few minutes walk. Each of the 29 campgrounds are equipped with electric outlets, barbecue grills, and picnic tables. Visitors to this campground are welcome to use the shower room and toilets which have running water. Tent and RV campers are both welcome.

The Cardens Bluff Campground is located just next to Watauga Lake, in Unicoi, Tennessee. This 43 site campground is just a few hundred feet from the water-front, making it easy to indulge in water-sports activities, as well as hiking around the lake, and exploring the Cherokee National Forest that it is surrounded in. The campsites at this facility are purely for tent camping, as there are no hook-ups for electricity. Each site does have a picnic table, and a pole to hang a lantern on. Each group of camp-sites are equipped in the central area of each, with showers, toilets which flush, and running water for drinking.

The Roan Mountain State Park Campground, is located directly inside of the Roan Mountain State Park. Hiking, camping, and water-sports around the Watauga Lake area is just a few minutes away from the campsites. The campground included 107 sites for camping. Each of these sites include an electric accessible hook-up, making it convenient for RV camping as well as pitching a tent. There is running water at each of the campsites, and bathrooms with toilets and showers, are no more than a few minutes to walk to from any of the sites. Group sites are also available for up to 25 people.
