Wealth and Poverty in Mexico City: A Neoliberal Explanation

One structural explanation for Mexico City's extreme inequality is the dominance of neoliberal economic policies since the 1980s. These policies—privatization, deregulation, foreign investment incentives—have disproportionately benefited elite business interests and multinational corporations. Meanwhile, the urban poor face precarious informal employment, inadequate housing, and eroded public services.
