When is a child done with education in Mexico?

The Mexican education system includes 12 years of basic education, called the _“Educación Básica_”. This is made up of three years of preschool education (kindergarten), six years of primary education ( elementary school), and three years of secondary education (middle school). Basic education is mandatory for all Mexican children, meaning they must attend school for these 12 years. Upon completing basic education, students can choose to continue with their education at the upper secondary or higher education levels, but these are not compulsory.
