Compulsory Education in Mexico: When Does Basic Schooling End?

Mexico’s Educación Básica spans 12 mandatory years:

• 3 years preschool (kinder)
• 6 years primary (primaria)
• 3 years secondary (secundaria)

After completing these 12 years (typically around age 15–16), students may continue to upper secondary (preparatoria) or higher education, which are optional.
