Who was the first explorer to come Guatemala?

The first European to explore what would become Guatemala was Pedro de Alvarado, a Spanish conquistador who arrived in 1523. Guatemala and the rest of Central America had previously been explored in 1502 by Christopher Columbus' fourth expedition.
