How does Spain government work?

The Government of Spain is organized according to the Constitution of 1978, which established a parliamentary monarchy as the form of government. The Head of State is the King, who represents the unity and permanence of the Spanish nation and is the symbol of its unity and independence. The King appoints the Prime Minister, who is the head of government and directs the executive branch.

The Spanish Parliament (Cortes Generales) is the supreme body of representation of the Spanish people. It is made up of two chambers: the Congress of Deputies and the Senate. The Congress of Deputies is the lower house, with 350 members elected by universal suffrage for a four-year term. The Senate is the upper house, with 266 members elected by universal suffrage for a four-year term.

The Government is responsible for the general policy and administration of the State. It is headed by the Prime Minister, who is appointed by the King and must have the support of a majority of the Congress of Deputies. The Prime Minister selects the other members of the Government, who are collectively responsible for the actions of the Government.

The Government is accountable to the Parliament, which can pass a motion of no confidence to force the Prime Minister and the Government to resign. The Government can also dissolve the Parliament and call for new elections.

The Judiciary is an independent branch of the government, responsible for the administration of justice. The highest judicial body is the Supreme Court, which is composed of 20 justices appointed by the King on the recommendation of the General Council of the Judiciary.

The autonomous communities are 17 regions of Spain that have a certain degree of self-government. They have their own parliaments, governments, and administrative bodies. The autonomous communities are responsible for a wide range of matters, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The local governments are the municipalities and provinces. They are responsible for providing basic services to the population, such as waste collection, water supply, and public transportation.
