Did Spain own what is now Arizona?

Spain did indeed own what is now Arizona. The area was first explored by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century and was part of the Spanish Empire for over 200 years. In 1848, the United States acquired Arizona as part of the Mexican Cession following the Mexican-American War.
