Did Mexico own parts of the us?

Mexico did not own any parts of the United states as an independent nation. However, before their independence, the Northern half of the continental US was Spanish territory. The United States annexed Texas in 1845 and gained control over much of the Western United States as a result of the Mexican-American War (1846–1848), in which Mexico lost over half of its territory to the US.
