Who lived in Mexico a long time ago?

The Olmecs were an ancient Mesoamerican civilization living in the southern part of what is now Mexico, during the Formative period (c. 1500–400 BCE). The Olmecs are considered one of the mother cultures of Mesoamerica, along with the Maya, the Aztecs, and the Zapotecs. The Olmec civilization is known for its colossal stone heads, which are thought to represent rulers or deities. The Olmecs also built large ceremonial centers, such as San Lorenzo Tenochtitlán and La Venta.
