Why were settlers attracted to Mexico?
There was little settler attraction to Mexico. This may have been due to the strong Spanish influence in the area, which discouraged non-Spanish settlers from moving there. Spanish law gave Spanish citizens preference in land ownership, and there were also restrictions on non-Catholics owning land. Additionally, the Mexican government often granted large land grants to Spanish aristocrats, further limiting the availability of land for settlers.
