How big was the meteor that hit Mexico?
The Chicxulub crater is a large impact crater buried beneath the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. It was formed by a large asteroid or comet impact that occurred approximately 66 million years ago, during the late Cretaceous period. The impact is believed to have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs, as well as many other species.
The Chicxulub crater is estimated to be about 180 km (110 miles) in diameter and 20 km (12 miles) deep. The impact is estimated to have released an energy equivalent to about 100 million megatons of TNT, making it one of the most energetic events in Earth's history.
